Domain Summit is a series of B2B conferences serving the global domain name industry. Founded in London in 2022 by Helmuts Meskonis, the event began as a single annual gathering in the UK and has since expanded into a multi-regional conference series with editions held in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The series targets domain name registrars, registries, hosting companies, domain investors, brokers, escrow services, and internet policy professionals.

Background and Purpose

Domain Summit was created to address a specific gap in the European domain name industry: there was no dedicated, independent, English-language forum where professionals across the domain supply chain could gather for business-focused discussions. Before Domain Summit, the European domain community relied on larger global events or smaller national gatherings that did not bring together the full range of registrars, registries, investors, and service providers in one room.

The conference is designed as a B2B event, meaning its programming is aimed at professionals transacting and building business relationships rather than at general technology audiences or end users. Every edition has been deliberately capped at a manageable attendee size to keep the event focused on meaningful connections rather than mass attendance. As described by the organizers, the mission is to deliver more meaningful connections for more and better business, succeeding one Summit at a time.

Founding and Early History

Origins

Helmuts Meskonis, a Latvian entrepreneur based in the United Kingdom, founded the original conference in 2022 under the name London Domain Name Summit (sometimes abbreviated LDNS). At the time, Meskonis identified that while domain professionals in Europe were active and commercially significant, there was no dedicated venue for them to meet, share insights, and conduct business specifically within an English-language context.

The inaugural event was held at Yum Sa, a restaurant and event space in London, on August 22 and 23, 2022. It drew around 150 attendees from more than 10 countries, which by most accounts surprised observers given the niche audience and the fact that it was an entirely new event with no track record. Despite its modest venue, the atmosphere was engaged and the conversations substantive, covering topics across registrar operations, domain investing, and ccTLD management.

Coverage of the event appeared in the International Business Times, among other outlets, noting its role as the UK's first dedicated domain name summit.

Rebranding

After the second edition in November 2023, the organizers acquired the domain name DomainSummit.com from American domain investor Mike Mann and rebranded the conference to simply Domain Summit. The name change reflected a deliberate shift in scope: rather than a London-specific or European-only event, the organizers intended to build a global conference brand that could expand into new regions. Their conversation, held over the course of the summit, connected two previously separate threads of the global domain industry.

The 2025 London edition was the most substantial edition of the London conference to date. It moved to the Business Design Centre, a larger and more flexible venue, and adopted the new name Domain Summit Europe to signal the event's position within the expanding global series.

Over 360 attendees registered, with 279 receiving lanyards on the day. The program comprised 44 business sessions across two tracks: the Executive Stage and the Growth Stage. The DNJournal review of the 2025 event, written by Ron Jackson and photographed by Jay Shaw-Baker, described the conference as having delivered an "astounding wealth of information on virtually every topic relevant to today's domain industry." The event ran on two tracks simultaneously, allowing attendees to move between executive-level strategic content and more operational growth-focused sessions.

The 2025 edition also made clear the event's broader ambitions. Helmuts Meskonis announced that Domain Summit Europe would be the first in a series of regionally focused conferences, with Domain Summit Africa already confirmed for early 2026 and plans in discussion for a future Americas edition.

The first Domain Summit Asia was held in Hong Kong just ten weeks after Helmuts Meskonis and Jack Dai, the founder of DN.com, agreed to co-organize it at the sidelines of Domain Summit Europe 2025 in London. The speed of execution from agreement to sold-out event attracted attention across the industry.

The event was held at 88 Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Every available seat sold out, hitting the venue's maximum capacity. The theme was described as "Precisely Connecting the Global Domain Industry Chain and Seizing the Trillion-Dollar Asian Market Dividend," reflecting the ambition to bridge Western domain professionals with the large and fast-moving Asian domain market.

Additional support came from .Asia (the registry for the .Asia and .Kids TLDs), Igor Mocni, and Eric Yang. The Domain Summit and DN.com teams coordinated the logistics between Hong Kong and the UK in a notably short window.

The dot.asia publication, covering the event, noted that the conference was Asia's first professional domain industry event with a B2B focus aimed at connecting registrars, registries, and investors across Asia and globally.

Domain Summit Africa 2026

The first Domain Summit Africa was held in Nairobi, Kenya at the Villa Rosa Kempinski hotel. It drew more than 220 delegates from over 30 countries, including government representatives, registries, registrars, and domain investors. Tickets sold out before the event began.

The event's Home Partner was KeNIC (the Kenya Network Information Centre). Kenya Cabinet Secretary Hon. William Kabogo EGH delivered the official opening address, flanked by KeNIC CEO Andrew Lewela, ICT Authority CEO Jessy Kiveu, and Helmuts Meskonis. ICANN was represented by Senior VP Bob Ochieng.

KeNIC CEO Andrew Lewela credited the event for bringing together country code TLD registries from across Africa in a setting that had not previously existed, and framed it as an opportunity to position Kenya and the broader continent in the global domain conversation.

Meskonis later described the moment Kabogo arrived at the venue as one where he and the KeNIC team realized they had created something beyond what they had anticipated. In a statement reported by Dynadot, he said almost all companies and registrars that attended overachieved in terms of meetings and new business strategies, and described the atmosphere as "truly magical."

DNJournal editor Ron Jackson covered the event and wrote that the conference "didn't just run, it flourished." The review noted it was the first major B2B domain industry conference in Africa, and that its success demonstrated the continent's domain industry had reached a critical stage of development.

A private KeNIC office tour and networking drinks evening at the hotel took place on the evening of February 22, ahead of the main two-day program.

The 2026 European edition moves from London to Kempten, a city in Bavaria, Germany. The format has shifted to a smaller, more curated gathering of 60 attendees, with registration by invitation only. This represents a deliberate change of approach compared to the larger London editions: fewer attendees, more selective access, and a venue with a specific character.

The event is organized with Nic.lv (the Latvian ccTLD registry) and RNIDS (the .rs Serbian ccTLD registry) as Registry Partners, alongside a group of corporate sponsors.

As of June 2026, the event page notes that Domain Summit Europe 2026 has already sold out.

Organization and Format

Attendance Philosophy

Domain Summit conferences have generally maintained capped attendance figures, ranging from 60 (the 2026 Kempten edition) to 279 (the 2025 London edition). The organizers have stated that this is a deliberate policy: events are designed to maximize meaningful business interaction rather than to maximize headcount. Several editions have sold out before the event date.

In 2025, Domain Summit introduced a policy of sharing a limited attendee list with verified participants. Verified and qualified attendees receive access to a list containing names, companies, email addresses, and LinkedIn profiles of other attendees, to help arrange meetings before and during the event. The organizers state this list is not sold or distributed to third parties.

Programming

Events typically run across one or two days, with some editions extending to three or four days when additional programming is included. The 2025 London edition introduced a two-track format with an Executive Stage and a Growth Stage, allowing the conference to run senior strategic content and more operational sessions simultaneously. Founder

Helmuts Meskonis is a Latvian entrepreneur based in the United Kingdom. He founded Domain Summit in 2022 and has run each edition as the primary organizer. He is also listed as an Advisor to it.com Domains. Meskonis is active on social media under the Telegram handle @helmutsm and can be reached through the Domain Summit contact channels.

His background before Domain Summit included work in community events and digital media in the UK Latvian community, including an online competition for UK Latvians that received coverage in major Latvian media outlets. He also ran a CC0 photography project.
